Master Woodworking AOY- As the “Wood Art Capital of Oklahoma,” the Forest Heritage Center has the honor of bestowing the prestigious title. Past winners include Phil Wiles of Norfork, AR, Jerry Brownrigg of Alva, OK, Kenneth Vonk of Meda, AR, Kevin Walker of Rudy, AR, Wayne Delyea of Granbury, TX, and Steven Knott of Mena, AR. Artists from across the nation will compete in this year’s show with a diverse array of techniques including marquetry, furniture making, woodturning, carving, and sculpture. The forest provides the medium for talented artists who carve, turn and sculpt the wood into magnificent forms that challenge the boundaries of the imagination. Many wood artists select their material from Oklahoma’s diverse array of native woods, choosing to harvest dead standing or fallen timber or knots and burls that are otherwise unsuitable for construction, adding untold value to Oklahoma’s already booming forest industry.
