The Forest Pioneers 1800s

As pioneers traveled west, they kept their wagons light, bringing only essential tools: a gun for protection and hunting, an axe for shelter building, and a Bible for spiritual sustenance. The pioneers relied on the forest for self-sufficiency, using its resources to construct homes and barns, and to provide fuel for heat and cooking.

Notice the wooden wash tub, spinning wheel, butter churn, furniture, fence, oxen yoke, and the grist mill or water wheel used for grinding corn. Also, observe the froe, a tool used to make shingles.
